Superfood Number One: Bee Pollen

25 Sep

I’ve been seeing this in some health foods but haven’t really been all that interested.

Until I had a smoothie made with bee pollen and it was AMAZING.

First it’s delicious, second I felt better after I drank it. Sold.

There are a lot of claims about what it can do for you but it definitely gives you vitality.

Add one tablespoon to your smoothie and enjoy!

My New Roots blog has more information here and Livestrong has LOTS of information here.

Buying Shit that Matters

21 Sep

Who do you think is more powerful the American consumer or the American voter?

I love democracy, but I really think that the consumer wields much more power than the voter.

For example, I can ride my bike to work and for an infinitesimal reduction on carbon OR I can support Wal-Mart’s transition to a sustainable supply chain which has a MASSIVE impact on reducing the carbon in our atmosphere.

Bike v. Car:

10 mile trip 5 days/week for a year= .7 ton reduction of CO2

“Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest retailer, announced on Thursday that it would cut some 20 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from its supply chain by the end of 2015 — the equivalent of removing more than 3.8 million cars from the road for a year.” NYTimes

“The “footprint” graphic below reflects the fact that Climate Counts divides companies into three groups. Those that score 50-100 are “striding” towards a low carbon future and identified in green, those that score 13 to 49 are “starting” to address their climate impact and marked in yellow, and those that score 12 or less are “stuck” and colored red.” read more here
