Hens, Chickens in the Heat– 5 tips

10 Oct

My recommendation:

If it’s over 85 get a fan in your coop.  This past summer we got hit by a nasty heat wave.  I researched on the internet and picked up these tips

  • put a kiddie pool in their outdoor area
  • put ice in their drinking water
  • feed them watermelon
  • dunk them in cold water
  • keep at least one fan blowing at all times

I lost one chicken during the heat wave because she was broody and when they get broody their temperature goes up.  If you have a broody hen in the summer KEEP HER OUT OF THE COOP!!!

It’s so sad to lose a chicken.
